A word from Doctor Moon about fees:

At the Animal Medical Clinic, we strive to keep our fees as affordable as possible without compromising the quality of care that we give your pet.  This means that we select high-quality vaccines from major manufacturers, store and handle them carefully, and prepare them freshly moments before they are administered to your pet.  Although the price may be slightly higher than mass-vaccination clinics, the benefit in enhanced immunity – the very reason that we give vaccines at all – is worth the investment of a few more cents every one to three years.

Some veterinary clinics waive the fee for the office call and perform minimal if any physical examination, but then administer every possible vaccine to every pet.  We believe that a physical examination, history, and consultation are crucial to good health.  A thorough examination and history allow us to identify and treat many disease processes early, often resulting in a better outcome with less discomfort and expense.  A consultation regarding the pet’s lifestyle and exposure allows us to tailor the vaccine program to the individual needs of your pet, avoiding the needless risk and expense of vaccinating for diseases to which your pet has no exposure or risk.

Similarly, our prices for spays, neuters, and dental cleaning reflect the care and attention that we give each patient.  Some local veterinarians have been heard to say that they perform upwards of twenty such anesthetic procedures a day.  We seldom do more than two in a day, and excepting emergencies we never exceed three.  The difference in the attention paid to your pet during the critical period of general anesthesia may be reflected in the price of the procedure.

The Animal Medical Clinic receives no government subsidies (as a matter of fact, we pay taxes!) or donations from individuals or foundations.  We employ local people at fair wages, and we contribute to the community in many ways.  We appreciate your support and understanding of our needs to cover our expenses, keep our inventory and equipment updated, and earn a modest living for us and our employees.  We will continue to do our utmost to offer the highest quality of care at affordable prices.

Discussion of fees and your financial limitations are always welcome, and we will do our best to meet your needs in a way you can afford.

Prices for spays include preoperative pain and sedative medication; general anesthesia; monitoring of pulse, respiration, blood oxygen content, and electrocardiogram; IV fluids; surgery facility and instruments; a complete ovariohysterectomy; recovery; postoperative counseling; and suture removal (usually 10 days after surgery).  Preanesthetic blood work and prescribed postoperative pain medication is extra:

Cats: $178.54

Dogs less than 25 pounds:  $185.20

Dogs 25 to 50 pounds:  $228.91

Dogs 50 to 75 pounds:  $258.15

Dogs over 75 pounds:  $289.07

Neuters include the above procedures, except the surgical procedure is castration rather than ovariohysterectomy.  Vasectomy is not routinely performed on domestic animals, because substantial health and behavioral benefits arise from the decrease in testosterone after castration.  Suture removal is not required after neutering a cat:

Cats: $97.19

Dogs less than 25 pounds:  $129.03

Dogs 25 to 50 pounds:  $152.05

Dogs 25 to 70 pounds:  $183.40

Dogs over 70 pounds require extra care at neutering due to the potential for postoperative swelling.  Prices will be estimated on request based on physical findings.
