Dr. P. David Moon has worked as a veterinarian at the Animal Medical Clinic since 1982 and owned the practice since 1983. He was born in West Virginia in 1956, but moved to Florida in 1960 when his father, a school administrator, accepted a position with the Brevard County School District as it was rapidly expanding to serve employees of the fledgling space program. Dr. Moon grew up in Cocoa and Titusville, graduated from Titusville High School, and then attended the University of Florida.
After receiving a bachelor degree in 1977 and his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1982, Dr. Moon settled in Indian River County, where he met and married the former Pat Hill in 1983. They have two daughters. Jessica currently works as an account manager for Personnel Plus, a staff management firm. She is a graduate of Stetson University, where she majored in international business and performed as a vocalist in Stetson’s choirs and opera productions. Jaclyn attends the University of Florida as a civil engineering major. Jackie is an accomplished musician, as well, having served as principal flutist for the award-winning Sebastian River High School band for two years and Band Captain in her senior year.
Both Dr. Moon and his wife, Pat, are musicians as well. Dr. Moon plays several instruments, but is most accomplished as a pianist. He volunteered as the principal accompanist for the Sebastian River High School chorus program for nine years, appearing in the renowned Prism concerts, chorus concerts, and solo and small group appearances with his students throughout the community. He has also served several churches in the area as principal or guest pianist, and he performed as a member of the piano ensemble of Melbourne’s “Strings of Glory” Independence Day celebration for five consecutive years. He is currently an assistant pianist at Christ By The Sea United Methodist Church.
Dr. Moon also enjoys photography and avidly follows his beloved Florida Gators football and basketball teams. And at his age, he actually remembers the Miami Dolphins’ fabled undefeated season.
Dr. Moon is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, and the Treasure Coast Veterinary Medical Association.
Baron is Animal Medical Clinic’s emeritus Vice President for Client Relations. He is a native of DeLand, Florida, where he was orphaned before the age of two weeks and rescued by Dr. Moon’s daughter. Aware that the AMC was in need of an office cat and overburdened by commitments of college classes, a part time job, and bottle feeding an orphan kitten around the clock, Jessica called her daddy and Baron began commuting daily between AMC and Dr. Moon’s home. Baron took early retirement, with full medical benefits, in 2010 and now cheerfully terrorizes the Moon's other pets and visitors.
Baron’s favorite pastime is eating, although sleeping in trash cans and laundry hampers runs a close second. When full and awake, he enjoys chasing bugs, playing hockey with every scrap of paper or plastic that hits the floor, and getting his neck scratched.
Kelli Cairns, the chief veterinary technician at the Animal Medical Clinic, has been with the AMC since 2004. Kelli is a Florida native and a graduate of Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce. She attended Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville and Saint Petersburg College, completing her degree in veterinary technology in 2008. Kelli enjoys outdoor activities such as bicycling, walking, boating, and fishing, and is an avid fan of the Florida Gators.
Heather LoPrete joined the Animal Medical Clinic in May of 2011. As the primary receptionist, hers is likely to be the first voice you hear when you call to schedule an appointment. Heather was born in Vermont and lived in the Green Mountain State until she was 13. She graduated from Pamlico County High School in Bayboro, North Carolina, and moved to Florida in 2009. Heather fills her spare time with reading, music, and sailing, in addition to caring for her two dogs, cat, and lovebird.
Pat Moon, the patient wife of Dr. Moon, works part time at the clinic, as well. She handles inventory and ordering as well as assisting with patients and helping with administrative duties. Pat has lived in Indian River County for her entire life, after being born in Melbourne in the day when the Melbourne hospital was the one most convenient to Sebastian. She enjoys home crafts, music, and reading in her time away from AMC.
